Eden Connecticut
Growing outreach activities in the northeastern United States have resulted in the establishment of Eden Connecticut as a division of Eden providing autism services in this region. Presently administered by Eden's Outreach and Support Services Division, Eden Connecticut's programs include a variety of consultation services for schools, agencies and families, as well as diagnostic and evaluative services, parent training and workshops for professionals and other service providers.
Eden's Wawa Education and Retreat Center is located in northeastern Connecticut, in the rural community of Chaplin. The Center is home to Eden Institute's Extended School-Year Residential Program, providing multiweek experiences for children enrolled at Eden Institute in New Jersey during the school year. In addition, these summer educational and residential activities are offered to children with autism who live in Connecticut and other states as well.
During the fall, winter and spring months, the Center is available to Eden families, faculty and staff for retreat, respite and vacation purposes. Eden A.C.R.E.s group homes also plan regular visits. Theme weekends with activities for all ages are held throughout the year.
The Chaplin facility also serves as a site for many of the Eden Connecticut outreach activities as well as for meetings of area social service agencies, including a chapter of the Autism Society of America. Periodic work weekends, often organized as community service projects by Rotary club members, help keep the Center functioning year-round.
